What is a Psychoeducational Assessment?

A psychoeducational assessment is a detailed evaluation that helps us understand your child’s strengths and areas where they may need extra support by showing us how your child learns, processes information, and completes tasks. We use the results to create personalized recommendations, strategies, and support for both home and school.

The results can be shared with your child’s school and used to create an Individual Education Plan (IEP) tailored specifically to your child’s needs, helping your child get the right support to set them up for academic success and personal growth.

A Psychoeducational Assessment can look at:

We take a closer look at how your child thinks and solves problems. These assessments evaluate areas such as verbal and non-verbal reasoning, processing speed, and working memory. By understanding your child’s strengths and challenges, we can tailor our support to match their unique learning profile.

These assessments look at your child’s academic skills, including reading, writing, and math. We identify specific areas where they excel and those where they could benefit from additional support. This insight helps us create targeted tools and strategies to help your child build confidence and thrive in school.

We look at how your child is creating and maintaining friendships and expressing their feelings. By evaluating this area, we can provide your child with strategies to build skills for positive peer relationships. This holistic perspective ensures that we address all aspects of their development, fostering their overall well-being and success.

We look at your child’s memory, their ability to use sounds or language to process spoken and written language, as well as their attention skills, impulse control, and executive functioning. This allows us to understand how they learn so that we can provide individualized strategies that speak to their unique learning style.

Adaptive functioning is assessed when warranted and looks at how your child handles common life demands, like talking to friends, taking care of themselves, and doing things on their own. By evaluating your child’s adaptive functioning, we can identify areas where they may need support outside the academic realm.

Academic and emotional struggles

When your child is having difficulty regulating their emotions, or when school struggles make your child feel sad, anxious, or frustrated, an assessment can provide the answers and suggest effective ways to help.

Questions about school help
